As a veterinarian, you might wonder how you can recruit the best talent, but you simply don’t have a lot of time. But don’t worry, we have five tips to help you not only recruit top talent, but also save you time - so you can have your cake and eat it, too.

Make your “careers” page on your website easy to access and simple. Doing so allows candidates to easily navigate their way through potential positions at your clinic. List each position and write a simple, informative description that uses industry-appropriate language.

Just as your “careers” page on your website should be simple and straightforward, so should your postings. Don’t take too much time writing elaborate job descriptions and details. Instead, only include the most important and pertinent information that is still engaging and enticing to potential candidates.  

Tip # 4 - Social Media

Social media is a growing recruiting strategy for veterinary clinics because it is a low-cost way to recruit, source, interview, and stay in touch with candidates. Keep this in mind as you are recruiting. Social media is a way for you to reach literally hundreds or thousands of candidates in a short amount of time and can be a very effective tool in your recruiting efforts.

Additionally, if you’re not extremely familiar with popular social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, you can easily find online tutorials that will make you an expert in no time.

Tip # 5 - Strut Your Stuff

If there is one thing you should do while you recruit, it is have confidence in your veterinary clinic. In other words, if you offer benefits and perks such as generous paid time off, affordable healthcare benefits, or casual Fridays, don’t be afraid to promote these as you recruit. Make them part of your job descriptions and incorporate them into your interviews.

Bottom line? The benefits and perks you offer employees are an extremely effective tool in recruiting and hiring candidates.

How to Save Time

To save time while recruiting, go straight to the sources. New college graduates are a great resource to fill entry level positions. Going straight to universities and colleges helps you gain access to workers with up-to-date skills. Internships are another way to get fresh talent in the door.
