One of the biggest trends in employee health benefits right now are private health exchanges. The following Infographic by The Healthcare Trends Institute provides an outlook of private exchange implementation among employers, as well as what employers report looking for in a private exchange.
According to the 2013 Healthcare Trends Benefits Study and Infographic:
Over half (54.5%) of employers report they are somewhat to very familiar with private health exchanges, with 6.4% of employers currently using a private health exchange.
The top perceived benefits of using private health exchanges are to help employees make more cost-conscious benefit decisions, and to offer a wider array of health benefit options.
The top attribute for offering health plans through an exchange is COBRA compliance.
The number one feature employers want in a private health exchange is plan and cost comparison tools (85%), followed closely by online access (76%).
How do employers learn about private health exchanges? Independent research and insurance brokers topped the list at 53% each.
