PCIP Suspends Enrollment Due to Funding

 
PCIP Enrollment by Month

On Friday, the administration announced it would stop allowing new enrollees in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP).  Beginning February 16, 2013, the federally-run PCIP is suspending acceptance of new enrollment applications until further notice. PCIP will continue providing coverage to more than 100,000 people currently enrolled nationwide.

The federal goverment is eliminating the $100 commission program aimed at brokers who assist consumers enrolling in the federal Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP).

Commissions Now Available to Agents and Brokers for Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) Referrals

Effective September 1, 2011, brokers and agents in states with federally administered Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) programs will receive commissions on qualified referrals.

Brokers who wish to receive the referral commission may register here, set up an account, and submit referral forms.  Referral commissions will be paid to referring brokers and agents once the applicant has been accepted and enrolled in the PCIP program for one month.

In July, 2010, the health reform bill created the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Plan (PCIP) to provide health insurance coverage to uninsurable citizens. Currently, 24 states (including District of Columbia) administer their own PCIP program. The federal government and HHS run the program on behalf of the remaining states.
