FAQ: What is Medicaid?

Note: None of this should be taken as legal or tax advice.

Medicaid is a U.S. public health program for certain U.S. citizens with low income and resources.

While the Medicaid program is funded by both state and federal governments, each state manages their own program and controls the eligibility requirements.

Services provided to qualifying individuals depend on the state, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sets requirements that states must meet in order to obtain federal funds for the program.
