There are a lot of reports coming out about the new health reform bill. A lot of very negative things are being said that, if true, are very troublesome.
The problem is that it's impossible to know what to believe. Most news and blog sources that criticize the plan take a tone that makes me think that they would criticize anything proposed by democrats. On the other hand, the supporters all seem to be saying that this is good because it's one step closer to abandoning capitalism for good.
I have no interest in getting political on this blog, but I just want some nice moderate opinions on this. I want to know how much of what I'm hearing is real and how much is propaganda, So I've decided to whip out my reading glasses and do something about it.
I'm going to dive into the bill and try to understand the weird political talk enough to figure out some specifics. So here are the issues in particular that I want to learn more about:
#1 - I've heard people say that there is some super obscure language that basically makes private insurance illegal. I have a hard time believing these claims, so I want to check it out.
#2 - People are saying that in order for insurance to satisfy the minimum requirements, it would need to cover maternity, preventative care, and doctor visits. I defended this requirement earlier, but I might be eating my words if this is true.
#3 - I'm still not sure if private carriers will be able to use medical underwriting. That's a pretty important thing to know.
So that's my list. I'll spend some free time over the next week trying to find the real answers for myself and I'll share them on this blog. Is there anything else you want me to look for?
